I promise not to delete you as a friend on Facebook because you believe in something different than I believe. I promise to do my best to see your points of view. I promise not to use Repubtards, Demorats, Teabaggers, or other derogatory words. We're already divided enough as a nation.
Why do I promise these things? I've served this country and have protected and believe in our freedom of speech. And although I absolutely cannot comprehend why any American would want to burn the American flag, I support your right to burn it if you so choose.
I think people should look at our passion for politics a little differently. Even though we may not agree politically, the fact that you care enough to support your candidate means that you care for this country....and that's our common ground.
What do I ask in return? Know what you're posting is fact. Do a little research. You'll probably be surprised with what you find. I know it only takes a second to hit Like, Share, or forward that email, but take just a few minutes to research and educate yourself before you do. You'll be glad you did.
Whatever you do, don't let your emotions ruin a friendship. The big picture is that we're all in this together. It's better to keep people in your lives that you can trust than to throw away that relationship for someone that wants your vote.
My friends should know that I always try to find the humor in everything. Laughter is the best medicine. I think everyone should love to laugh even if they're laughing at themselves on occasion. Red Skelton's mom said this to him "Don't take life too seriously, son, you don't come out of it alive anyway." She couldn't be more right.
